AGNES WATER /1770
Agnes Water and the Town of 1770 can be whatever you wish to make of it. It can be an adventure of exploration, with the local area providing the perfect setting for many fun and interesting tourist attractions and adventure activities or an exercise in relaxation and solitude with the rare gift of having a beach to yourself within your grasp.
Situated within easy travelling distance ( 1 1/2 hours) from Gladstone and Bundaberg, Agnes Water and the Town of 1770 are located on the picturesque Discovery Coast of Central Queensland, boasting the closest southern access to the Great Barrier Reef and East Coast Australias northern-most surf break.
Nestled on the leeward (western) side of the 1770 Peninsula, the Town of 1770 area encompasses sheltered secluded coves for swimming, a tropical butterfly forest and some of the best shore fishing around. With easy access to the top of the 1770 headland peninsula you are rewarded with uninterrupted views of the magnificent Bustard Bay all the way to the Bustard Bay Headland topped with it's very own Historic Lighthouse and glimpses of Middle Creek, one of the four coastal creeks that bisect the coastline along the beach-front of Eurimbula National Park. The rolling hills of the hinterland provide the perfect backdrop for the ocean and river scene that unfolds with the setting sun.
1770 Headland has the distinction of being one of the few places on the East Coast of Australia, or indeed, in the World, where you can see the Sunrise and Sunset over water in the same location and also hosts the famous "Tree Bar" where you can enjoy an icy cold beer and a gourmet meal while taking in the waterviews of Bustard Bay and Round Hill Creek.
The views from the Headland also take in the dramatic Rocky Outcrops and Pristine White Sands of the Agnes Water Main Beach, drawing your eye along the coastline to Agnes Water Point, home of the Northern-most Surf Break on the East Coast of Australia.
Agnes Water Township hosts a wide array of shops and restaurants, including a health spa, local butcher and bakery, post office, service station and two supermarkets, ensuring that all your requirements are only moments away. A short stroll from the shops will take you through the "Beach Park" to the Agnes Water Main Beach where you can safely swim all year round in crystal clear waters, try your hand at surfing with the reef2beach surf instructors or wander the walking tracks that will take you to the Agnes Headland Lookout and over to the secluded bay of Workmans Beach, where you can enjoy an un-populated beach experience.
The Agnes Water/Town of 1770 area provides many attractions - With cruises to Fitzroy Reef and Lady Musgrave Island departing daily there many opportunities to view the abundant marine life of the Great Barrier Reef, have the snorkeling or diving experience of a lifetime or maybe even see the magnificent whales as they migrate along the coastline. With two coastal National Parks only 20 minutes drive from Agnes Water town centre, the outstanding natural beauty of the rainforest, mangroves and resulting wildlife is easily accessible on a self-drive 4WD experience or indulge yourself with a local kayak tour for a more intimate approach to the ocean and surrounding waterways. Eurimbula National Park and Deepwater National Parks both provide easy beach access for fishing and swimming, shell collecting and wildlife watching with the welcome sight of frolicking dolphins a common one.
Agnes Water main beach is also home to one of the premier long-board surfing events in Queensland.
